Russell Okung paid in Bitcoin! Russell Okung has finally gotten his wish to be paid in Bitcoin after first tweeting his demand in May of 2019. Okung will be the first player from any major US sports league to be paid in Bitcoin!
Zap will be facilitating this transaction – it was started by Jack Mallers and allows traditional paychecks to be converted to BTC.
Okung’s 13 million yearly salary will be split 50-50 between Bitcoin and Fiat currency.
Technically speaking, Okung will still be paid in fiat – behind the scenes, however, Bitcoin’s Lightning Network will work its magic – converting dollars to Bitcoin quickly and cheaply. The Bitcoin will then be sent to a cold storage wallet held by Okung.
This will be done with the help with Strike, which launched in private beta about a year ago. It can connect with any bank account via a routing number. Cash App worked in a similar fashion before it received a banking license in March.
