Founded in 2014, Dash is an elder statesman in cryptocurrency terms. But time and time again the project proves it is capable of innovation, and of leading the way in terms of mainstream adoption. So it’s no great surprise to hear that the Dash community have cooked up another trailblazing partnership, this time with Venezuela’s Kripto Mobile.
Regular readers of Crypto Traders Pro will know that Dash have already made significant inroads in Venezuela. As the beleaguered Venezuelan bolivar continues its dramatic slide, Dash has been at the forefront of moves to develop cryptocurrency networks in the country. They announced this latest partnership at the most recent Dash conference in Venezuelan capital Caracas.
The partnership, with leading mobile phone network Kripto Mobile Corporation (KRIP), will produce a handset specifically designed for the crypto market. The phone will benefit from a pre-installed Dash wallet, the Dash InstantSend feature enabling virtually instantaneous transactions, as well as the BitRefill service which allows phone credit to be topped up with Bitcoin and other leading cryptocurrencies. At under $100, it is expected that the phones will be highly competitive in terms of both price and features. Furthermore, Dash have already done some impressive groundwork building a user-base in Venezuela, with over 1000 merchants already signed up to accept Dash payments.
KRIP CO-Founder Luis Sosa says the phones will significantly catalyse Dash adoption in Latin America, enabling easy, peer-to-peer financial transactions for those who are “unbanked, underbanked, or simply do not want to use the traditional banking system.” Bradley Zastrow, Dash’s Head of Business Development, says the phones go a long way to “removing the friction that exists today with the cryptocurrency experience, and that “even users who have never interacted with cryptocurrencies have everything they need.” It certainly looks like an impressive package, but only time will tell whether Dash can find truly widespread adoption in the country.
