We can all agree that 2018 was not the year for cryptocurrencies in terms of a fantastic price movement – most cryptocurrencies have done terribly, losing up to 90% of their values over the past year. But in terms of adoption, 2018 was the best year yet! The number of cryptocurrency ATM machines have doubled in this year alone. There are more than 4000 cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide – so while cryptocurrency prices may drive you crazy, moves towards mass adoption should not.
The figure comes from the data published by Data Light, and shows a massive upward trend in the installation of cryptocurrency ATM machines this year.
From Data Light, an astounding 6 cryptocurrency ATM machines were installed per day on average in 2018. One of the key elements for widespread adoption is widespread ease and accessibility of cryptocurrencies themselves – this is just one step forward in terms of mass adoption – we should all be very happy with this news.
Out of the 4,051 cryptocurrency ATMs in the world, nearly all of them offer Bitcoin. 2,421 offer Litecoin, and Ethereum is offered on nearly half. Dash has made tremendous strides this year to be adopted in South America and Africa – and it shows – 729 ATMs offer Dash.
There are currently 1,258 Bitcoin ATM machines in the US, and over 1000 that service Bitcoin Cash. The combined total of ATM machines that service cryptocurrency in North America is 3,157. The UK has over 200, central Europe has 750, South America has 65, and Australia has 54.
This massive increase in cryptocurrency ATMs in 2018 shows that more people, more than ever, are starting to see cryptocurrency as a viable alternative. This is the first step towards mass adoption – we see this as massively bullish news.
