After a wealth of positive news this past month, Coinbase have announced further developments in their support for ecommerce and online retailers. A blog post on the Coinbase website said that the added functionality would make it “easier than ever” for businesses to start accepting cryptocurrencies and that the moves “will lead to more widespread adoption” of crypto.
The Coinbase Commerce payment portal already offers a range of tools to support businesses making the transition into crypto. This latest development means that no less than 28% of all online retailers will be able to accept payment in the leading cryptocurrencies with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Perhaps the most notable of these recent developments is the integration between the Coinbase platform and WooCommerce, a widely adopted WordPress plugin. WooCommerce is an open-source plugin which is, in its basic form at least, completely free at the point of use. Since its inception in 2011, the plugin has grown to be used on over 380,000 ecommerce websites. Coinbase Commerce functionality means that every one of these retailers can offer crypto payments on their sites. The plugin is available via GitHub.
Amongst the other notable developments is another very user friendly addition to Coinbase Commerce ecommerce functionality. The “React” payment button will allow users to embed a payment button on their site to support donations, payments, ticket booking or other transactions by inserting a snippet of code into their site or blog. Coinbase is quick to point out that all payments to or from the Commerce platform are peer-to-peer and on-chain, so merchants will never have to pay transaction fees to accept payments.
This latest news comes after a string of bullish developments from the Coinbase stable, including the addition of support for the British Pound and a partnership with WeGift to offer crypto gift cards.
