Luke Mulks joined Matt and Kurt for an interview for our 11th podcast. In the podcast, a number of topics were covered – from what the company is up to today, to what it hopes to achieve in the future.
Here are a few highlights from the podcast.
Bitcoin Maximalist vs BAT
A sticking point for many Bitcoin Maximalists were the fact that BAT didn’t use Bitcoin for their token – instead, they created their own on the Ethereum Blockchain. On that note, Luke pointed out that for a year, from 2016-2017, BAT actually did try to use Bitcoin as their base token, but ultimately felt that the current iteration of the Basic Attention Token is what was necessary for the project to succeed.
He also pointed out that, despite the differences, he feels that everyone in this crypto space is a lot closer than they think they are.
ERC-20 / Other Blockchains
Luke was asked, due to Ethereum’s hard fork Constantinople, if BAT has plans to migrate or have a contingency plan in place to migrate to another blockchain. BAT lovers rejoice, because Luke confirmed that while they’re not actively seeking to migrate, as a business, of course they had a contingency plan.
For now, they plan on sticking to the script and moving forward with Ethereum’s blockchain and thriving on it.
SEC Concerns
Kurt brought up a good point – many ICOs and cryptocurrency projects are currently undergoing a massive headache from the SEC regarding potential securities violations. On that note, Luke reiterated that they had had their ICO back when there was no guidance whatsoever regarding ICOs and securities. Their lawyers remain diligent, however.
Users
We’re proud to announce that we’ve learned that as of a couple weeks ago, the Brave browser has 5.5 million monthly active users! This is a far cry from a year ago, when Brave broke 1 million active monthly users.
To this end, Luke credited the advancements that the team has made, and the hard work that the team has done.
He touted the work that the team has done insofar as making connections and inroads with advertisement companies, as well as working hard to fill the unique niche of privacy-orientated marketing that BAT hopes to be.
He remained mum as to the newly announced Collaboration between HTC and BAT, the Brave Browser will be the default browser for one of their phones, but remarked that it was, indeed, a collaboration. The fact that this was done by the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world was not lost by the team – the fact that it’s in the midst of a bear market was even more noteworthy.
BAT Ads
We can confirm that we plan on participating in BAT ads. Along with the US, it was announced that BAT ads would be launched first in the UK, Canada, France, and Germany.
Not only will we be able to pay for BAT ads with BAT, merchants can choose to pay for BAT ads with their regional fiat currency.
One thing that was brought up was the stark contrast between what BAT hopes to do as opposed to traditional big advertisement firms like Google and Facebook – BAT doesn’t plan on blocking ads just because of an arbitrary reason like Google and Facebook did with Cryptocurrency.
Roadmap
Crypto Traders Pro is proud to be one of the first to announce that BAT will be releasing an updated roadmap following some internal work getting finished.
In the meantime, Luke wanted to encourage anyone who had any questions to go to Github and check on BAT’s work there. It’s public. It’s viewable. BAT is staying busy.
