Silk Road story to be turned into a movie! The Silk Road story about Ross Ulnricht’s will come to the silver screen in 2021 according to an announcement from major entertainment company Lionsgate.
Lionsgate has acquired the rights to the movie and plans on releasing the feature in theaters and online starting February 19th, 2021. The film will be based on the 2014 Rolling Dtone article Dead End on Silk Road. The feature will focus on the lead up to Ulbricht’s arrest.
Nick Robinson of Jurassic World will portray Ulbricht, who is now serving 2 life sentences in federal prison. He was found guilty of money laundering, computer hacking, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics.
This isn’t the first feature on Ulbricht’s story – last month, CBS aired a documentary about the Silk Road dark web marketplace with an interview with Ulbricht’s ex-girlfriend. The Silk Road movie was originally scheduled to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival but the event was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Ulbricht was arrested by the FBI in 2013. He still provides occasional analyses on the Bitcoin Market on Medium Blog that he publishes from the US Penitentiary in Tucson.
