Ethereum turns five years old today! As Ethereum turns five, it is important to note its birthday – it was first launched via the Ethereum Network on July 30th, 2015.
A lot has happened since 2015 – in fact, the Ethereum blockchain continues to be the number one choice for smart contracts, eclipsing Tron, Zilliqa, EOS, and others. This was only cemented on July 25th when Ethereum smart contract calls hit a new all-time high of 3.11 million.
Part of Ethereum’s meteoric rise as a smart contracts use case is the result of the DeFi boom that has taken the crypto-world by storm. $3.81 billion dollars is locked in DeFi applications.
One of the biggest events in Ethereum’s half decade life is the upgrade forthcoming, dubbed ETH2.0. Migrating Ethereum to ETH2.0 was supposed to happen by the end of July, but clearly, the upgrade has been delayed.
Justin Drake, an Ethereum Foundation researcher, gave a tentative date of launch – January 3rd, 2021. However, Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, believes that ETH2.0 can still be launched in 2020, around November 3rd.
As of writing, Ethereum is settling just south of the $320 resistance zone. What are some of your favorite memories of Ethereum? Let us know on our Facebook page!
