Twitter hack yesterday reveals hidden message by hackers! The Twitter Hack resulted in several high-profile individuals, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, tweeting a common Bitcoin scam. Send some bitcoin for more in return.
The hackers didn’t leave a public statement, but did leave a message in the blockchain. Put together, they read “you take risk when use (sic) Bitcoin for your Twitter game. Bitcoin is traceable. Why not Monroe?”
The question of why not Monero is poignant. Bitcoin is the most well-known cryptocurrency but it’s very public. Anyone can trace and see the movement of all Bitcoin – making it very difficult for a criminal to escape with the money.
Monero, by contrast, is a private cryptocurrency – it allows for the masking of wallets and transactional information.
“Bitcoin is a billion times easier to buy than Monero. It has a name that is instantly recognisable, where most of the people that saw the Tweets would never have heard of Monero,” tweeted Riccardo Spagni, also known as FluffyPony, who was the lead maintainer of Monero.
“Bitcoin addresses are significantly shorter than Monero addresses, leading to more space in Tweets,” he added.
