Shelter in Place orders mandated by three more states! Shelter In Place orders have been mandated by Ohio, Louisiana, and Delaware as of Sunday, March 22nd, 2020. The mandate comes as the toll from the virus increased to 31,000 cases and 390 deaths.
With this announcement, more than 101 million Americans are either currently under, or will soon be under, state orders to remain at home to slow the pandemic. This is roughly 31% of the nation’s population.
Mandatory Shelter-in-Place orders have been or will be enacted in the following states as well – California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York.
The United States has the third-largest number of confirmed cases, behind China and Italy. It is expected that the number of confirmed cases in the US will continue to climb as testing capabilities increase.
Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio signed a statewide stay-at-home order for the state’s 11.7 million residents – the order is set to expire on April 6th, but exceptions for essential services exist. Ohio has reported 351 confirmed cases and three deaths due to Covid-19 Virus.
Mike DeWine called this escalation a new stage in a Tweet.

Louisiana also issued a stay-at-home measure effective later today, March 23rd. Louisiana has 837 cases and 20 deaths.
In Delaware, John Carney ordered residents to stay home starting Tuesday.
Worldwide, the confirmed total cases of the COVID-19 has surpassed 300,000 worldwide over the weekend according to Johns Hopkins University.
Italy has reached a grim milestone – over 4,800 deaths – larger than the death count reported in China. Italy has responded by shutting down all production facilities except those essential to maintaining the nation’s supply chain.
