Square Crypto Hires Matt Corallo! Square Crypto, a division of Square, just hired Matt Corallo, a prolific bitcoin developer.
Square Crypto Hires Matt Corallo at a time of a bit of a downturn for cryptocurrency prices. But Matt Corallo is an excellent acquisition for the company – he’s authored efficiency improvements such as rust-lightning implementation – something that makes it easier for users to build and interact with the layers of the Bitcoin Network. Corallo will be joining the team to experiment with accelerating bitcoin development.
Steve Lee, a former Google director, is heading up the team that Corallo is joining. The team is still looking and actively hiring for several positions. 2 engineers and a designer to work full time on open source contributions to Bitcoin are still being searched for – an operations lead is also being sought after.
Corallo spoke regarding the range of companies that now sponsor open-source development in the cryptocurrency space, including Square, Bitmex, and the Zcash Foundation. He said:
“I think things have improved greatly in terms of the breadth of different funders. … We’ve had an explosion in people that want to fund open source work in the space.”
